Reel Shot TV Hosts Make Hunting And Fishing A Family Affair

Q&A with Pursuit Channel killer-couple Brandon and Jodie Carter

Brandon and Jodie Carter are the hosts of Reel Shot TV on the Pursuit Channel. They are busy preparing for for the premier of their Season 2 in July, but they took time to sit down for a few questions- some not necessarily connected with hunting.

Q: How did the concept of Reel Shot TV come about?

Brandon: Jodie, TELL YOUR STORY!

Jodie: The concept of the show started well before I ever came along. But when Brandon really got serious about doing the show, I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I volunteered to edit the show and do some on camera work. I never imagined that two years after we started that I would be one of the main team members of the show.

Brandon: My dad pretty much trained me from a little boy to be a TV host! We would watch hunting shows back in the 80′s when all there was, was TNN outdoors block on Sunday nights. That’s when the passion started for me. It just took us some time to get to the level that we wanted to operate at. Ive always felt this was my calling and what I was supposed to do….not just something I wanted to do. I think this is what really separates us from many of the shows out there.

Q: Is there some “friendly rivalry” between you all when hunting?

Jodie: Brandon and I are not only married but we are great friends. That friendly rivalry is something that all good friends have. Although we give each other a hard time sometimes, I think that rivalry pushes us out in the field to see who can be the best. But honestly, nothing makes me happier than getting a text from Brandon that says “got one” or “big buck down”

Brandon: Absolutely! But that’s just what it is…Friendly. At the end of the day I want Jodie to Succeed as much or more than myself. But I’d be lying if I said I liked second place!

Q: Aside from hunting, what’s your favorite outdoor activity?

Brandon: Being a professional fisherman for 11 years, I obviously love fishing.

Jodie: I really enjoy fishing or just sitting around outside and enjoying nature.

Q: Living in Louisiana, what’s your favorite state to travel to? How often do you go there?

Jodie: I really don’t have a favorite state. I love the beaches of Florida, the vast openness of Nebraska, the culture of Texas, and the hunting in Iowa. Each place that I’ve been has something unique about it that I find appealing.

Brandon: I’d have to totally agree with Jodie….Variety keeps long tough seasons interesting.

Q: What make and model of vehicles do you own?

Brandon: I drive a Ford F-150 FX4. Ive got Navigation and Sync….but Jodie doesn’t! ha ha

Jodie: I drive a Ford Expedition. I’m short, so I like feeling tall in my big girl SUV.

Q: What’s your most embarrassing situation while filming Reel Shot TV episodes?

Jodie: We were in Iowa and it was 0 degrees outside, so obviously there was snow and ice on the ground. I was bundled up with so much clothes that I looked 100lb heavier. Well on my way into the stand, I slipped on some ice and fell head first into about a foot of snow. Since I was the camera girl on this hunt, the camera went into the snow with me. Brandon ran over to me and grabbed the camera out of the snow. He had so much other stuff to carry that he couldn’t help me up. I rolled around like the little kid on the movie “A Christmas Story” who couldn’t get up out of the snow because he was so bundled up. Brandon just stood there and laughed while I rolled around trying to get back on my feet.

Brandon: Hmmmmm I don’t really get embarrassed. I’d have to say though when a show hits the air and we notice some little detail that slipped through the cracks in post production…that’s kinda embarrassing. We like things perfect!

Q: What’s your favorite type of hunting (rifle, shotgun, bow, spear, etc)? Your favorite animal to pursue?

Brandon: I subscribe to ” Its not how far you can shoot, its how close you can get them”. So with that being said, I’m a Bowhunter first and foremost…but at the end of the day I’m a hunter….and I’ll use anything legal! Whitetails are my favorite by far, but I LOVE turkey hunting as well.

Jodie: 100% bowhunting! There is nothing like the adrenaline rush of getting a deer within 20 yards of you, drawing back slowly, and making that shot that you trained for all summer!!! I love chasing those big whitetails but turkey hunting is a close second.

Q: Who does the cooking at home? What’s your favorite meal?

Jodie: NOT ME!!!! Brandon says that I can’t even boil water! My favorite meal is anything Brandon cooks, that boy knows what he’s doing in the kitchen!!

Brandon: That would be me! I don’t know that I have a favorite meal…but whatever I eat, its gotta be LOUISIANA STYLE!!

Q: What’s your most exciting hunt you’ve ever had? What was you worst hunt?

Brandon: My Most exciting hunt was my first deer. I killed a little 1.5 yr old spike during Christmas vacation when I was in Middle School. I had my grandpaw drop me off and pick me up each morning. The land I was hunting was virtually deer-less, but I never gave up. One morning I was in a creek bottom slipping along and spotted the little buck. That’s the most excited I have ever been on a hunt. Ive had LOTS of bad hunts, but my most heartbreaking hunt was last year when I rattled in a 180 class 6×7 typical to 12 yards. My camera man had him full frame but I didn’t have a shot. Watching that deer leave still haunts me.

Jodie: My most exciting hunt was my first bow kill. Like I said before, the thrill of having a deer inside of 20 yards and the pressure to make the right shot gives you such a rush. I was so proud when it all came together and I was able to put my hands on my first deer kill with a bow. I guess my worst hunt was sitting in a tree in Iowa in 0 degree weather with a strong wind blowing freezing to death and not seeing any deer.

Q: What was your first job — and what was your most vivid memory of it?

Jodie: My first job was teaching dance classes. I took dancing for 12 years and taught for 6 of those years. I especially loved working with the 2-3 year old class. They are so funny at that age.

Brandon: My first real job was at a boating dealership. I did a little of everything there. My most vivid memory was getting my first check and I made 5$ an hour. I was SOOO excited!!

Q: So how big is the family at home?

Jodie: We don’t have any children yet, but we do have two dogs. We have a very sweet pit bull named Hammer and a very weird mutt named Charli. They keep us entertained.

Q: Where do you see yourselves in 5 years? 10 years?

Jodie: I want to still be doing Reel Shot TV, traveling around the country, getting to hunt and fish for a living, and enjoying every minute of it.

Brandon: At the top!

Robert Richardson, Jr. Looking For Good Charlotte Finish In HelpTruckers.com Chevrolet

Robert Richardson, Jr. and the No. 23 HelpTruckers.com Chevrolet team of R3 Motorsports head to Charlotte Motor Speedway with high hopes this weekend.

In addition to welcoming HelpTruckers.com to the team, driver and crew are seeking a good run on the 1.5-mile oval. With this being a home “game” for many of the team members, they want to perform well in front of friends and family who are in town for the race weekend.

And, the all-important owner’s points awarded with a good finish are a good reward, as well. After the oil pump belt was knocked off 49 laps shy of the finish at Dover International Speedway the last time the series raced, the team is hoping to regain some of the points lost to that 35th-place finish.

Track Facts: Richardson has two previous NASCAR Nationwide Series starts at CMS to his credit. One was the fall race of 2008, the other was this race last year where he started 37th and finished 33rd. This will be Richardson’s 54th-career Nationwide Series start.

Car Facts: Steve Plattenberger and team are bringing chassis No. 30 to the track this weekend. Last used at Texas Motor Speedway in April, the car finished 23rd after starting 40th. This car will once again have the Chevrolet R07 engine under the hood.

Keeping the O.P. peace: In regards to the Owner’s Points standings, coming into the 12th race of the NASCAR Nationwide Season, the R3 Motorsports team sits tied for 23rd place with the No. 01 of Johnny Davis Motorsports. They trail 22nd place by 44 markers, 21st by 52 and 20th by 67 points.

HelpTruckers.com debut: For the first time this year, HelpTruckers.com will adorn the hood, quarter and TV panels of the team’s No. 23 Chevrolet this weekend. The website is the newest innovation for truckers, and those in the trucking community, to help them as they travel up and down the highway. Whether it’s for repairs, a place to stay or to just stay in touch with those in their industry; HelpTruckers.com offers their personal touch to everyone.

Robert Richardson, Jr. quotes
Talk about having HelpTruckers.com on the car: “I think it’s great we have someone like them on our Chevrolet. My grandfather was a trucker and I know this was special for my dad (Robert, Sr.) and myself to have someone like them become part of the R3 Motorsports family. It kind of worked out nicely with their logo already being a match for our paint and color scheme, too.”

What do you like about racing Charlotte: “Like most tracks this size, it’s fast getting through the corners. The only way you’re going to be able to do that best is to get into Turns 1 and 3 the right way. I spent a lot of time watching different lines while I was in the All-Star Showdown last weekend. I just need to get it right for when I get out there this weekend.

“I like that there’s multiple grooves to get around the track. That allows me choices to make around the track. The team has my favorite car for this weekend and I’m ready to have a good showing.”

What are the challenges of Charlotte: “If you can get a well-handling race car that goes over the bumps well and turns well, then you’ve tackled one of the biggest challenges.”

Favorite moment in CMS history: “Any of the All-Star Races are pretty cool. But, my favorite was when Mark Martin won it in 2005.”

Did you know: Mark Martin holds the NNS record for Most Wins at CMS with six trips to Victory Lane.

Robert Richardson, Jr. Piloting R3 Motorsports No. 23 Chevy At Dover

R3 Motorsports lead driver Robert Richardson, Jr. will pilot the No. 23 Chevrolet in Saturday’s Heluva Good!® 200 NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Dover International Speedway.

Richardson, who has been out of the seat for the past two weeks while Coleman Pressley drove, is looking to keep the team’s momentum going in the upward direction. Currently 21st in the Owner’s Points standings, the team has gained 10 positions in the past six races.

During that span, the unsponsored car of R3 Motorsports has earned two top-15 finishes and three, of four, top-20 finishes consecutively. Richardson started the top-20 streak off at Talladega Superspeedway with a 20th, and Pressley followed that with an 18th at Richmond International Raceway and 15th at Darlington Raceway.

This is the highest the team has ever been in the Owner’s Points and hoping it will make them even more attractive to potential Marketing Partners. The combination of well-prepared Chevrolets, good drivers and team would be an instant fit for success with sponsorships.

R3 Motorsports is hosting four airmen from the Dover Air Force Base for Saturday’s race. Joining the team as honorary crew members will be SSGT Algie Lane from Texas, Lt. Col. Marti Reynolds from Miss., SSGT Braulio Quinones from Puerto Rico and SSGT Roque Morales from Penn. On race day, they will have lunch with and meet the team, take part in a hauler tour and sit on the pit box during the race.

Fast Facts: Richardson has made two previous NNS starts at the Monster Mile of Dover, both in 2007, where had a best finish of 27th.

Car Facts: The team, led by crew chief Steve Plattenberger, is bringing Chassis No. 37 from the R3 stable. This car was last used at Bristol Motor Speedway in March of this year, and ran at Memphis Motorsports Park, Bristol and O’Reilly Raceway Park in 2009. The car was running 15th at Bristol two months ago when it got wrecked after contact with another car. Since then, the body has been redone and the geometry changed to compliment the high banks of Dover.

Moving UP in the Owners Points: For the sixth-consecutive race, R3 Motorsports has moved up in the Owner’s Points Standings. Before the Nashville race on April 3, the team was 31st in points and in danger of being locked out of a guaranteed starting spot reserved for the top-30. Two finishes in the top-15 and four in the top-20 through that span has placed the team at a career best of 21st . They trail 20th by just 10 markers, 19th by 14 and 18th by 22 points.

Richardson joins the Air Force, sort of: The driver of the No. 23 Chevrolet will join other NASCAR drivers at the Dover Air Force Base on Friday night for the annual NASCAR Social. While there, Richardson will meet Air Force personnel and their families for autographs and photos.

Robert Richardson, Jr. quotes:

Are you looking forward to getting back in the seat? “Heck yeah I am. It’s tough to watch someone else drive the No. 23, but Coleman (Pressley) did a good job at Richmond and Darlington. It’s great to see all the hard work by the guys back at the shop pay off on the track. As a driver, you can’t help but look forward to getting back into a car that’s been doing so well.”

Can you see why Dover is called the Monster Mile? “That track is something else. You have a one-mile, concrete oval with 24 degrees of banking in the turns and the back and frontstraights are banked, too. I love racing on the concrete and I know the car we’re bringing has been run on concrete before, so that helps. But yeah, I’ve seen quite a few guys end their days early because someone got sideways in front of them at Dover. Like I said, we’re going in the right direction with this team and my goal, our goal as a team, is to keep that going.”

What would some marketing partners/sponsors mean to the team right now? “It would give us the ability to be that much better. We’ve shown we have the cars to get the job done on the track, we’ve moved up in the Owner’s Points to ensure we’re locked into the show each week and we’ve been getting more coverage than ever. The best part is it changes your focus for qualifying and racing from being conservative to running a bit harder. If someone came on board, they would be in for a good ride with the No. 23 team. And the best part is – they’d have a lot of fun racing with us.”

Sponsorship Inquiries: R3 Motorsports is still seeking primary partnerships to fill out their 2010 NASCAR Nationwide Series season. The team recently partnered with Wild Sports Marketing to enhance motorsports marketing opportunities. Please contact via Wild Sports Marketing to get involved.
